Taylor snaps up Spence after Palace departure

Peter Taylor has made his first signing as Wycombe manager with young winger Lewwis Spence arriving on a two-year deal from Crystal Palace. The 20-year-old was released by Palace at the end of the season and Taylor acted quickly to snap up the left-sided player. Spence made three first-team appearances for the Eagles and each of them came in the 2006-07 season when Taylor was Palace boss. Wycombe have also been boosted by the news that experienced midfielder Gary Holt will be staying at Adams Park.

Good professional

The former Scotland international had been expected to leave after claiming the club did not do enough to keep hold of former boss Paul Lambert, who led the Chairboys to the League Two play-offs last season. But Taylor has confirmed that the 34-year-old Holt has commited himself to helping Wycombe launch another promotion push next term. "We had a brief conversation and I could tell within two minutes that we were on the same wavelength," Taylor told the Harrow Times. "Gary has assured me he wants to stay and enjoy the season with us. "He is a good professional and a good type, and I'm looking forward to working with him next season." Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that Wycombe's Carling Cup first-round tie against Birmingham on Wednesday, 13th August will be shown live on Sky Sports.
