Defender could stay with Brentford

The future of defender Craig Pead has been thrown into confusion after Brentford denied he had joined Port Vale - and could sign a new deal to stay at Griffin Park. The right-back was one of several players who left the Bees at the end of the season, despite being named in the PFA League Two team of the year, and was announced as a signing by Vale on Tuesday. Vale boss Lee Sinnott told the club's official website: "I believe this is an important signing, as many people have commented on the current make-up of the squad. "Craig will bring experience to the side and he also helped Walsall get out of the league that we are about to go into." However, a statement on Brentford's official website said: "It now transpires that Craig will not be joining the Potteries club. "He has told Bees manager Andy Scott that he wants to keep his options open."
