Spencer not leaving Cheltenham after failed medical

Crewe Alexandra's bid to sign Damian Spencer has fallen through after the Cheltenham Town striker failed a medical. The League One rivals had agreed a fee, with Spencer travelling to Gresty Road to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical following a recent injury. However, Crewe's first-team coach Steve Holland has confirmed the proposed transfer will not be taking place. "The player has unfortunately not passed his medical, which is a disappointment to him and for us," Holland told the club's official website. "We will not be taking it any further on this occasion and he will return to his club." Cheltenham confirmed on their website that Spencer's move away from Whaddon Road was off due to a knee injury picked up against Swansea City on Boxing Day. Meanwhile, Crewe will learn on Friday whether a bid for another striker - believed to be Forest Green's Stuart Fleetwood - has been accepted.
