Ward - Garner going nowhere

Carlisle boss does not expect bids for record signing

John Ward is confident Carlisle United's record signing Joe Garner will not be leaving the club in January. Garner cost Carlisle £140,000 from Blackburn Rovers in the summer and has scored 10 goals in 18 League One appearances. His exploits have prompted interest from a higher level, but Cumbrians boss Ward is not worried about fending off any bids when the transfer window opens. "People within the game never talk about speculation, it's always people outside of football that want to chat about it," Ward told skysports.com. "But I don't worry about losing Joe, that's for other people to talk about.

Raw

"The kid's 19, he's got 10 goals, he's got such a lot to learn and deal with yet, I'd be very surprised if anyone was to come in at this particular time." Ward acknowledged that, if Garner continues to bang in the goals at Brunton Park, then clubs will come calling in the future. He added: "I think if he's still going this way in 12 months then people might want to chat about him, but at the moment I'd be very, very surprised if anyone was to show interest in signing him yet. "He's very, very raw and very young."
