Midfielder plays 90 minutes for second string

Giles Coke is closing on his Northampton Town debut after playing 90 minutes for the reserves. The midfielder joined the League One side from Mansfield Town in the summer, but has been sidelined since January with a knee injury. However, after coming through the full 90 minutes of Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Peterborough, reserve-team coach Ian Sampson believes Coke could make his first-team bow soon. Sampson said: "I was pleased to see Giles Coke come through the 90 minutes, but he still needs at least one more reserve game before he'll be ready to challenge for a place in the first-team. "I could have taken him off after 80 minutes because he was flagging a little bit, but completing the full 90 is psychologically a major plus for both him and the club. "Brett Johnson was also strong. He came through okay and comes into contention for Crewe."
