Big Aussie looks set to be out until the new year

Oldham Athletic goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi is set for three more months on the sidelines after undergoing an operation on his troublesome knee. The Australian shot-stopper had the joint cleaned out in the off-season, but doctors have had to go back into the problem area. Microfractures were discovered within the knee and the 31-year-old does not now look likely to return before the new year. He made 45 senior appearances for the club last season, but injury problems have blighted his campaign since the play-offs. Pogliacomi's injury flared up again in pre-season and despite returning for the reserves earlier this campaign his knee issue has recurred. Mark Crossley was brought in as cover over the summer and has been ever-present between the sticks so far this term. And the former Sheffield Wednesday keeper looks set to retain his place while Pogliacomi rests, before the big Aussie then embarks on a programme of rehabilitation.
