Latics lose youngster

Oldham Athletic teenager Deane Smalley could be out for six weeks with a knee injury.

Oldham Athletic teenager Deane Smalley could be out for six weeks with a knee injury. The striker was making his first start for the club in Tuesday's Carling Cup second round tie at Burnley, but was forced off after just 20 minutes. Smalley will now join a congested treatment room at Boundary Park, with Oldham boss John Sheridan confirming the injury. "Deane's taken a knock to the medial ligaments in his knee," Sheridan told the club's official website. "It was a completely fair block tackle by their lad and it's unfortunate as Deane's a young lad who's done well. "I thought I'd give him a chance against a better standard of opposition. He did okay and has a lot of potential. "That's another injury though and we've got a few now - Deane will be four to six weeks if the injury is what we suspect."
