Paul Trollope hopes Craig Disley will be the first of several Bristol Rovers players to sign a new contract.
The midfielder agreed a deal to stay with the League One club until 2009 prior to Saturday's 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra.
Disley went on to score in the game and is viewed as an integral part of the Rovers side by first-team coach Trollope.
"We are looking to the future and Craig has played a big part in our success and the progress we have made over the last few years, and we wanted to secure him for a longer term," Trollope told the club's official website.
"He was coming into the last year of his contract and we have high expectations of him this year.
"He is an asset for us and this settles us, and the player, down for the future, so hopefully he will continue his good form.
"The plan is to try to keep this group of players together. Craig is the first and there may be a few others to follow as the season goes on."
