Hartlepool's Jim Provett has left the club after turning down the side's offer of a new deal.

The 24-year-old was kept out of the side last season by fellow goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopolous, but after the Greek moved on to pastures new, Provett had hoped to become number one choice at Victoria Park.

However, the arrival of both Arran Lee-Barratt and Jan Budtz meant that the goalkeeper maintained his low position in manager Danny Wilson's pecking order.

But in response to the incoming players, Provett has elected to turn down the club's offer of a new deal, and will now seek alternative employment.

"We needed two quality goalkeepers at the club when Dimi left and Jim decided not to take up our contract offer," said Wilson.

"But I believe we now have that quality at the club and it is fantastic to have such competition for places in that position, which we need all over the pitch."

Provett had been at the club since 1996 and has evidently moved on to seek regular first-team football.
