Williams claims late winner

Marvin Williams grabbed an injury-time goal to give Millwall a 2-1 win over Luton Town.

Millwall substitute Marvin Williams grabbed an injury-time goal to give his side a 2-1 win over Luton Town.

Ben May and Chris Coyne had earlier scored either side of half time and with the game looking like a stalemate, Williams popped up to prod home the winner deep into added-on time.

Millwall went close to taking the lead early in the game when a May free kick was only parried by Marlon Beresford but a late-arriving Carl Asaba was denied by a last-gasp challenge by Coyne.

However, on half an hour, Millwall finally took a deserved lead through May.

After controlling a high ball, the former Brentford striker swivelled in the area to fire low past Beresford and give the hosts the lead.

That was the last action of the first half but the second half got off to a lightning start when, just a minute after the break, Luton levelled, Coyne smashing home from close range after Millwall failed to clear the danger following Paul Underwood's free-kick.

Both teams had a number of opportunities to grab the winner before the 90 minutes were up and Luton were made to pay when Williams forced his way past two defenders to stab home the winner deep into stoppage time.
