Luton midfielder Jonathan Smith has signed a new three-year contract at Kenilworth Road with an option of a fourth year.

The 28-year-old, who has made over 100 appearances for Luton, initially joined on loan from York in 2012, and has become a key part of the Hatters' side since their promotion from the Conference in 2014. The Preston-born midfielder collected the players' player of the season award for Luton, and spoke of the delight of remaining with the Hatters. "I've had a really good time here; it's the right club for me, and I want to carry on and take this club as high as possible," he said. "I believe this club is too good for League Two, and I believe since I've been here under John Still I've improved as a player and now I want to keep pushing on. "It's been a special time for me here, I'm dedicated to this club and I feel like there's a lot more to come."
