Flitcroft hails Bury showing

Bury boss David Flitcroft felt his side were 'colossal' as they won 1-0 at home to promotion rivals Luton.

Flitcroft saw his team play brilliantly in the first half and lead through a ninth-minute header by Tom Soares. Luton almost equalised after the break, but Bury held on for a fourth straight win to go level with the Hatters in the League Two play-off places. "It was a colossal performance - and it had to be because Luton are a good team," said Fitcroft. "The first half was as good as we've played. We dominated proceedings and took the ball away from Luton. "My only disappointment was that I wasn't sat in the stand watching it, especially the play down the left side between Chris Hussey, Danny Mayor and Kelvin Etuhu. "The first-half performance had everything that we project we are. "Then in the second half we weathered a storm when we needed to. "[Luton manager] John Still always believes he's got a chance to win the match, he's brave in what he does and pushed people forward. "But the three times Nick Pope was called on he made match-winning saves, so I was delighted with the way we won the game and capped it off. The decision making and game management was outstanding." Still felt his team were off the pace in the first half but improved after the break. He said: "When you're not consistent it's always disappointing but it's a tough league. "The first half was nowhere near good enough. We didn't win any individual battles, we didn't play with any tempo and were fortunate to be 1-0 down. "I made two changes for the second half, we went back to our normal 4-3-3, and then had an equal share. We had better chances and their keeper made two outstanding saves. "He actually made a miraculous save in the first half, without us deserving it. The saves in the second half - we possibly deserved to get a goal for our efforts - but we didn't deserve to win the game. "We posed a threat in the second half which we didn't cause in the first - and not only did we not cause a threat but we were disjointed, so maybe I have to look at myself as well as the players."
