Coleman baffled by defeat

Image: John Coleman: None too pleased

John Coleman was disappointed Accrington managed to lose 2-0 to Luton in a game where he felt they had been in "total control".

The visitors enjoyed by far the better of the first half, but trailed to Jayden Stockley's 41st-minute opener and then Luke Guttridge sealed the win in the second half. Stanley's four-match unbeaten run came to an end with the defeat, that leaves them 10 points off the play-off places and the same amount clear of the relegation zone. And it left Coleman thinking what could have been. Coleman said: "We've contrived to lose a game where we were in total control. For 40 minutes as that was as good as we've played, certainly away from home. "We've been very unlucky not to take the lead and conceded a goal when Luton have had their only spell of pressure for five minutes. "They've capitalised on their good fortune to be in the lead, but when we've had our best spell in the second half, we've also conceded a sloppy goal and then they've seen the game out quite comfortably. "We got disjointed and lost our way, but we can't beat ourselves up, we have to learn from our mistakes. "Luton scored on the back of a five-minute spell where they had the benefit of some dubious decisions that kept the ball in our half and went in their favour." The result moves Luton closer to the top three, who all failed to win on Saturday. The Hatters are two points behind third-placed Wycombe after bouncing back from successive defeats. Manager John Still was not happy with his side's first-half performance but was pleased with the improvement after the break. He said: "I don't think we started particularly well, I thought they had the ascendancy and threw us out with the shape they played. "Gradually we got into the game, Jayden got a good goal, that's three goals for him now, so well done him. "Second half, I thought we played really well. It was good to have Gutts back and getting into it. "We're just trying to get the organisation of it right and it was a good second goal, good play by Elliot Lee. "He did terrific with that, and the second half we were okay. We're getting to the stages of the season where every point is important, so it's good."
