Midfielder released after just one season at Deepdale

Kevin Nicholls has left Preston North End after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent. The midfielder only moved to Deepdale last summer in a £750,000 deal from Leeds United and was signed by former boss Paul Simpson. However, he has been unable to impress current Preston chief Alan Irvine and did not feature in the first team in the final three months of last season. The Championship club have now confirmed that an agreement has been reached for the 29-year-old to move on. During his time at Preston, the former Wigan and Luton Town midfielder made 20 appearances, starting 18 times.
