NORTHAMPTON TOWN are aiming to bring Luton Town striker Steve Howard back to Sixfields.

Howard joined The Hatters in a deal worth £50,000 in 2001 but Northampton boss Martin Wilkinson is set to take advantage of the Second Division side's financial woes and test their resolve to keep Howard.

Kenilworth Road boss Mike Newell has recently lost fellow forward Tony Thorpe to Queens Park Rangers and would be loathed to lose Howard who has netted an impressive half century of goals from 99 appearances for the club.

The striker was recently red carded in Luton's 2-0 defeat to Brighton on Bank Holiday Monday.
