Williams loaned to Welling

Southend striker Jason Williams has joined Welling on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old previously had a spell at local side Chelmsford City but Phil Brown has opted to move him up a division after a series of impressive performances. He hit six goals in as many games in the Conference South, but moves up to the Vanarama Conference to join Welling, who are slipping into a relegation fight. Explaining his decision, Brown told the official club website: "Jason's going with a view to giving him experience at a higher level than Chelmsford. "He got himself six goals in six games in a division below. He'll find it more of an experience than he did at Chelmsford. "Welling are in a fight towards the bottom of the Conference and he'll learn a lot playing for them. We wish him all the best, and hopefully when he comes back to us, he will be stronger and better off for it, ahead of next season."
