Southend boss targets O'Toole

Southend manager Phil Brown is confident of completing a deal to sign Northampton midfielder John-Joe O'Toole.

The window for loan deals closes on Thursday evening, with Football League clubs then unable to add to their squads until the transfer window reopens on January 1. Brown has tried to sign O'Toole on two previous occasions, most recently this summer when the 26-year-old opted to join the Cobblers on a three-year deal. "It looks like being a busy day but I'm confident we can get the deal for John-Joe O'Toole completed," Brown told the Northampton Chronicle. "That loan is with a view to a permanent deal and it will be great to finally get him to the football club after failing twice in the past. "Being honest we couldn't really compete with his wages before but we're in a stronger position financially now and I'm really pleased that I'm going to be able to work with him at last."
