Brown left puzzled by loss

Image: Phil Brown: Disappointed with poor showing

Phil Brown was left disappointed by Southend's performance following a 3-1 home defeat to Morecambe.

Kevan Hurst put the hosts in front but they were ahead for just five minutes as Andrew Fleming netted from the edge of the penalty area. Fleming then put the Shrimps ahead immediately at the start of the second half before former Shrimpers loanee Jack Sampson extended the visitors' lead with a deflected shot from long range in the 56th minute. Morecambe never looked troubled after that, despite having Robbie Threlfall sent off just seven minutes after coming off the bench for a poorly timed tackled on Anthony Straker. "We started the season with three wins and now we've had three defeats with the same set of players so it's quite puzzling," Brown said. "If we can now win the next three again I'll be very happy but I'm very disappointed by this display. "The players were below par and their decision making wasn't good enough. "That includes senior players who we brought back in here, but we didn't deserve anything from the game and there still wasn't enough nous in our team."
