Southend manager Paul Sturrock has declared that he has been "very pleased" with his side's pre-season tour of Madrid.
Sturrock highlighted the positives to be taken from the two-game trip which ended with a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano B following Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid B.
Sturrock told the club's official website: "I'm very pleased with the way things have gone.
"We have played a couple of games in very hot conditions and the style of play is a bit different to what we are used to.
"That has enabled us to work on our shape the past three days and I thought against Rayo Vallecano we looked a lot better with the players starting to get into the pace of the game."
