Jack Sampson is relishing the chance to play competitive first-team football in his loan spell at Southend.

The Bolton striker agreed a one-month extension to his stay with the Shrimpers on Monday and wants to help his temporary club gain promotion to League One. Sampson has featured in eight games for Southend, who are currently third in the table, starting five times for Paul Sturrock's side. He told Bolton's official website: "I'm enjoying playing matches because that is what every player wants, especially in a team that are doing well at the moment. "There's a real positive mentality in the squad. I'm enjoying being here and that's why I'm happy to stay for longer. "A finish in the top three has to be the aim and everyone is confident that it can be achieved in these last couple of months in the season."
