Paul Sturrock hailed a big team performance from Southend as they got back to winning ways with a 2-0 triumph at Burton.
The result vindicated Sturrock's decision to axe four players from his matchday squad - Liam Dickinson, Kane Ferdinand, Ryan Hall and Bilel Mohsni - following recent cases of indiscipline. Sturrock said: "A lot of water has gone under the bridge at this football club and a lot of home truths have been said, but that was a team performance." Second-half goals from David Martin and Neil Harris clinched the points, and Sturrock added: "We sorted a few things out at half-time and tightened up which made it much easier for the team. "They nearly caught us out first-half with a free-kick and I saw David have a chat with the ref. "In the end it worked out well and I was delighted when Neil got the second because two minutes earlier he hit the side-netting when it was easier to score."
