Leicester, Saints and Pompey hoping to avoid upsets

Leicester begin their Carling Cup campaign away to Rotherham, while Middlesbrough travel to Walsall. With Premier League teams yet to enter the competition, it is Championship scalps that will be prized by those clubs lower down the football pyramid. Leicester could be dark horses to progress a long way after spending big in the summer, but Sven Goran Eriksson's men must first overcome a Rotherham side that got off to a winning start in League Two at the weekend. There are various other clashes between teams two divisions apart, with Plymouth hoping to pull off a shock at home to Millwall. Torquay make the journey along the coast to tackle Southampton, who were so impressive in beating Leeds 3-1 on Saturday. 2008 FA Cup champions Portsmouth will be determined to avoid an upset as they welcome Barnet to Fratton Park. Middlesbrough, who drew 2-2 with Pompey at the weekend but have been tipped to challenge for promotion, visit League One outfit Walsall. Stevenage and Peterborough, who both earned promotion via the play-offs last season, lock horns at Broadhall Way. League One heavyweights Huddersfield started their campaign with a draw on Saturday and next travel to a Port Vale side that pegged back Crawley in League Two. Preston start as firm favourites to get past Crewe at Deepdale, but Leyton Orient face a potentially tricky trip to Southend. There are two all-League One battles, as Wycombe welcome Colchester to Adams Park and Rochdale take on Chesterfield. West Ham's match at home to Aldershot has been rearranged for 24th August in the wake of the escalating riots in London.
