Southend defender Chris Barker has taken full responsibility for his side's 3-2 defeat to Morecambe at the weekend.
Stand-in skipper Barker was given the armband after Craig Easton was ruled out with an injury and believes he was at fault for Morecambe's winning goal.
"I gave the ball away for the third goal and it wasn't good enough. I've lost the game for us and it was my fault," the former Plymouth defender said on the club's official website.
Barker was also gutted with his side's defeat.
"It's an understatement to say it was disappointing and all three goals were very basic and although it was a very nice start to the day in being named captain it was certainly a very disappointing end," he added.
