Chris Barker has expressed his relief at completing a permanent deadline-day transfer from Plymouth to Southend.
The last-minute deal was completed shortly before Tuesday's 6pm deadline and the 30-year-old is pleased to be staying at Roots Hall following a successful loan spell.
"The deal literally got done in the last few minutes so it was a relief to get it through in time," the defender told his new club's official website.
"I have really enjoyed myself over the last month; we are trying to build a club again.
"I have signed for two years at least and hopefully it might be longer.
"So hopefully we can now push on and bring some success back to the club."
