Colchester have completed the signing of striker Dave Mooney on a long-term loan from Championship side Reading.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with Charlton and has agreed a six-month deal at the Community Stadium. Mooney should go straight into the U's squad for Saturday's season opener at Exeter, subject to approval from the FA and the Football League. U's boss John Ward has also drafted in former Leicester goalkeeper Carl Pentney on a non-contract basis as cover for Ben Williams and Mark Cousins. Williams looks set to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with an ankle injury.
