Talks continue over new contract for winger

Southend United manager Steve Tilson is hopeful Damian Scannell will agree to sign a new two-year contract at Roots Hall. Scannell has made 58 appearances for the Shrimpers since his 2008 arrival from Eastleigh and has been discussing an extension following the club's relegation to League Two. The PFA website has listed the winger as available for transfer, but Tilson is optimistic that the talks will eventually result in Scannell signing a new deal. Tilson told the Echo: "We have offered him a two-year deal and we are still in negotiations. "He was playing well before getting injured last season and we're hopeful he will stay."
