Skysports.com understands Notts County are closing in on the signing of former Doncaster midfielder John Spicer.
Spicer is available on a free transfer after leaving the Keepmoat Stadium at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract.
The 26-year-old spent the last two months of last season on loan at Leyton Orient and Doncaster opted against offering him a new deal.
A number of clubs have expressed an interest in the former Arsenal youngster, but Notts County are thought to be at the head of the queue for Spicer.
Magpies boss Craig Short is keen to bolster his squad as they prepare for life in League One and he sees Spicer as a key addition to his plans.
