Scannell blow for Shrimpers

Southend with be without Damian Scannell for the remainder of the season due to a broken metatarsal.

Winger out of action for up to two months

Southend will be without Damian Scannell for the remainder of the season after he suffered a broken metatarsal in Tuesday's win against Walsall. The 24-year-old winger limped off after 64 minutes of the Shrimpers' 3-0 victory at Roots Hall and is now facing six to eight weeks on the sidelines. Southend are boosted by the news that Scannell does not require surgery, although they do not expect him to play between now and the summer.

No surgery

"Damian won't require surgery," physio John Stannard told Southend's official website. "It's not displaced and will heal on its own given time but unfortunately it looks like he won't play again this season. "The doctor has put him in a walking boot and it's a case of him now just waiting for his body to repair."
