Full-back prolongs association with hometown club

Julian Bennett has signed a contract extension at Nottingham Forest which ties him to the club until 2011. The popular full-back has spent more than a year on the sidelines nursing a knee problem but remains an integral part of the City Ground set-up. He stepped up his comeback from long-term injury on Tuesday with a 45-minute run-out for Forest's reserves. Bennett came through a friendly meeting with Coventry unscathed and is now setting his sights on a first-team return in the not too distant future. The 25-year-old defender has been with hometown club Forest since 2006, making over 100 appearances before being struck down by injury. He was named as the club's Player of the Year in 2007/08, having played a leading role in the club's promotion out of League One. Bennett will now be hoping to be back in contention in time to play some part in Forest's bid to reach the Premier League.
