Southend United youngster Stuart O'Keefe is likely to be out for up to six weeks due to a hernia injury.
O'Keefe suffered the problem after appearing as a substitute against Millwall last month and has been booked in for surgery next Monday.
The midfielder has made four appearances for the Shrimpers so far this season and will be sidelined for four to six weeks.
Meanwhile, the League One club have confirmed that fellow central midfielder Anthony Grant does not require surgery on an ankle injury.
Grant suffered the problem during the 2-2 draw with Swindon two weeks ago and may soon return to Steve Tilson's plans.
