Shrimpers boss eyes loan extension for defender

Southend boss Steve Tilson has asked to extend defender Sean Morrison's loan stay with the Shrimpers. Teenage centre-back Morrison has impressed during his eight-game stint since moving to Roots Hall from League One rivals Swindon. His two-month loan spell is due to expire after Saturday's clash with Walsall, but Tilson has already put in a request to the Robins for an increased stint. "Sean has done very well lately and we want him to stay," said Tilson. "We've spoken to Swindon about extending his loan and we're waiting for them to get back to us."

Small squad

Tilson has seen his options increased further by the return of Kevin Betsy and Alex Revell from their respective four-month loans with Wycombe and Swindon. The Blues chief's response to the duo's return appeared lukewarm at best and it appears they are unlikely to feature unless injuries force his hand. He told the club's official website: "They are both coming back and will be in training today with us. I have no problem with them re-joining us and we will just get on with things. "We do have a small squad so it's good to have a couple more players again. "We have been very lucky with injuries just lately with Steve Mildenhall the only one out but at some time of the season you expect to get a run of bad luck with them and that is when we are going to need more options and players."
