Colchester boss showing no interest in Southend striker

Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd says he is not planning to raid local rivals Southend United to sign Lee Barnard. Reports have linked Colchester, and fellow League One promotion contenders MK Dons, with a move for the in-form striker. Southend could slip into administration next week and Barnard is the club's prize asset having scored 32 goals in 74 appearances since his arrival from Tottenham in January 2008. Barnard has notched 12 goals in all competitions this season, but a move to Colchester is not on the cards as Boothroyd does not feel the 25-year-old will improve his team. "We're not interested in Lee," Boothroyd told the Green'Un. "As good a player as he is, in my opinion, he is not as good as what we have already got."
