Parkinson happy to bring in veteran defender

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of former Scotland international Christian Dailly on a free transfer. Dailly was released by Rangers at the end of last season and played for Charlton in Tuesday evening's friendly against Ipswich Town. The 35-year-old defender impressed Addicks boss Phil Parkinson with his performance and has now been rewarded with a contract at The Valley. Parkinson believes Dailly is just the type of player he needs to add to his squad as he looks to lead Charlton to promotion from League One.

Good influence

"We're delighted we've agreed a deal for Christian to join us," Parkinson told the club's official website. "I said after Tuesday's game that in an ideal scenario we'd like three out-and-out centre-backs plus a utility player, and Christian fills the utility role perfectly. "He's a very good professional, very fit for his age and he's going to be a good influence around the training ground. It's so important to have good role models in your football club and Christian gives us that. "I think he showed the other night that, without playing for the entire pre-season, his professionalism got him through 90 minutes and he got stronger throughout the game. "He's an international player of high pedigree and he brings a number of qualities to the club."
