Southend chairman Ron Martin expects Richie Foran to be loaned out in the near future.
The Irish winger has not featured for the Shrimpers in over a year, with niggling injuries hindering his progress.
He has, however, managed to shake off a persistent knee injury and is actively seeking a switch away from Roots Hall.
"Richie is back in training but he wants to move on and it's likely he could soon be going out on loan," Martin told the club's official website.
"He had an operation on his knee and after coming back he injured the other knee, but he's okay again now."
Meanwhile, Southend have re-opened contract talks with centre-back Peter Clarke.
The 26-year-old was placed on the transfer list over the summer after failing to agree a new deal.
However, having been an ever-present this season, discussions are now set to reconvene.
"I recently met with Peter and his agent and we will be talking again over the next week or two," said Martin.
"I don't want to distract Peter so the talks will mainly be with his agent but there is no rush. He will either sign up or he won't, but we will do everything we can to encourage him to stay with us."
Clarke insists he is keen to stay with the League One club, but believes the contract issue will take some time to resolve.
"It's certainly not something that can be sorted overnight," he said.
"I'm sure people realise that but hopefully we can sort out a contract.
"For now I'm concentrating on playing, though, and on making sure we're still doing well."
