Southend boss Steve Tilson has ended his interest in veteran defender Jamie Clapham.
The full-back had been on trial at the League One club, but has failed to earn a permanent deal.
As a result, Tilson will now turn to Chelsea youngster Anthony Grant as he looks to fill the gaps in the Shrimpers' back line.
"Jamie won't be signing for us. We've decided to look elsewhere for a left-back," Tilson told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, midfielder Alan McCormack is waiting on the results of a scan on his knee injury but is hopeful of returning to action in the near future.
"If all goes well I might play in the friendly at Wycombe this weekend but I will know more after seeing the specialist," he said.
"We're not sure if it's cartilage damage or just some fluid that has leaked onto my knee but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news."
