Southend have handed a trial to former Ipswich defender Jamie Clapham.
The 32-year-old is training with the Shrimpers after being released by Leicester earlier this summer.
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson will cast an eye over Clapham in some pre-season friendlies before deciding whether or not to offer the full-back a deal.
"Jamie has come in for us to have a look at and he will play in one of the matches we have coming up," said Tilson.
"Signing a left-back remains our main priority and he's someone who has enjoyed a good career so we will see what happens."
