Midfielder Tommy Black has revealed his shock after being released by Southend United.

Midfielder not handed a new contract by Steve Tilson

Tommy Black has revealed his shock after being released from Southend United but insists there are "no hard feelings." The 28-year-old is on the lookout for a new club after manager Steve Tilson decided against offering the midfielder a new deal. Black joined the Shrimpers from Crystal Palace for the start of the season and has been a key player in their sixth place finish making 30 league starts. The League One side have set their sights on building for next season but Black is surprised he is not part of Tilson's plans.

No hard feelings

"I was a little bit shocked that I wasn't offered anything because I played quite a few games," Black told the Southend Echo. "The team were successful, we went on a great unbeaten run and I was in the team for all of that and would like to think I played a part. "It's the manager's decision at the end of the day though and that's football. He gets paid to make these kinds of choices and there are no hard feelings."
