Long-serving midfielder Kevin Maher is one of five players to be released by Southend boss Steve Tilson.
Maher, Lewis Hunt, Che Wilson, Tommy Black and Steven Collis will all leave Roots Hall in the summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Tilson.
The Shrimpers boss has also offered defender Simon Francis a one-year extension to his current contract, while James Walker has formally completed a permanent move from Charlton.
Walker joined initially on loan in February and scored four goals in 17 appearances in the latter stages of the season.
