Collis joins Shrimpers

Southend United have signed goalkeeper Steve Collis from Yeovil Town.

Southend United have signed goalkeeper Steve Collis on a free transfer from League One club Yeovil Town.

The former Barnet and Nottingham Forest man signed a two-year deal with The Shrimpers, as the Essex side bring in a replacement for the retired Bart Griemink.

The 25-year-old will now aim to push Southend number one Darryl Flahavan for a starting place in Steve Tilson's first-team squad.

"When I was at Yeovil, Chris Weale and I had a battle throughout our time together," Collis told the club's official website.

"I think that's good when you have competition because it keeps both players on their toes.

"I'm not just signing to sit on the bench, I want to play games, and that sort of healthy competition will benefit both of us as well as the Football Club."
