Bristol Rovers manager Ian Atkins has revealed his is targeting a new striker and defender.

The former Northampton Town and Oxford United boss is keen to have two new players in his Memorial Stadium squad once the new Football League's loan system starts up next Wednesday.

Atkins has targeted two strikers in Huddersfield Town's Junior Mendes and Grimsby Town's Martin Gritton, and two defenders in Rushden & Diamonds' Graham Allen and Southend United's Andy Edwards.

The Rovers boss remains hopeful he can strengthen his side after a slow start to the new League Two campaign.

"In the near future, once we can loan players again, I'd like to think that having been given the option to strengthen this week, that will still remain the case then," Atkins told the club's official website.
