Southend United are confident they can still bring Rotherham United winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce to Roots Hall.

Rotherham rejected a £100,000 offer for the unsettled wide man on transfer deadline day, much to their League One rivals' disappointment.

But Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson is refusing to concede defeat in his efforts to add Campbell-Ryce to the squad.

With Football League clubs allowed to sign players on loan from next Thursday, Tilson feels there is a chance Southend can land Campbell-Ryce.

"The move for Jamal isn't dead in the water," Tilson told the club's official website.

"We are still talking to Rotherham and we might be able to get him on loan until January.

"I believe that he wants to come to Southend and if we can get him on a loan until the New Year then we will certainly try and do that."

Campbell-Ryce is on the transfer list at Millmoor at his own request after failing to settle since his move from Charlton Athletic last autumn.

Millers boss Mick Harford will reluctantly sell the winger but only if he receives an appropriate offer.
