Scunthorpe climbed to the top of the League One table after a 1-0 home win over Southend.
The Iron edged out another of the division's promoted sides courtesy of an Ian Baraclough goal.
The former QPR man struck nine minutes before the break for what was to prove the decisive goal of a tight contest.
The victory means Brian Laws' side take over from Brentford at the top of the table, although The Bees will have the chance to rectify that on Saturday.
