Southend United have signed youngster Freddy Eastwood on a month's loan.Southend United have moved to boost their striking ranks with the loan signing of youngster Freddy Eastwood.
The 19-year-old joins The Shrimpers on a month's loan from Conference South club Grays Athletic, as the League Two club look to ease their woes in attack.
The former West Ham United player comes highly-rated to the Roots Hall outfit, having enjoyed a trial with Premiership side Charlton Athletic last season.
Eastwood was Grays Athletic's leading goalscorer with 37 goals last season and Southend boss Steve Tilson (pictured) was keen add a striker to his ranks after losing Lawrie Dudfield and Drewe Broughton to injury.
"We had Freddy as a youth player and we offered him a scholarship, but he went to West Ham," Tilson told the club's official website.
"One thing that he can do is score goals, but now it is just a question of whether he can make that transition and score goals at this level.
"He played for Swindon reserves last week and scored a couple of goals so there are a few clubs after him.
"We have him for a month and we can have a look at him, we enquired about Freddy in the summer, but they (Grays Athletic) wanted a lot of money for him, so this will enable us to take a look at him and see where we go from there."
Meanwhile, Tilson has been running the rule over former Cambridge United striker Alex Revell this week.
