Southend have been boosted by the news that Kevin Maher has agreed a two-year deal and will put pen-to-paper upon returning from holiday.

The club confirmed they offered their captain new terms in May and he has now concurred on a deal to remain with the Roots Hall outfit.

Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson revealed the good news and is delighted the former Spurs trainee will be staying at the club for another two seasons.

"I've spoken to Kevin and he has agreed to the two-year deal we offered him," said Tilson to the club's official website.

"He's been away on holiday but he will be coming in to sign the deal.

"It's fantastic news that Kevin will be staying, he's an important part of our squad and he'll be instrumental in what we are trying to achieve here next season."
