LEYTON ORIENT boss Paul Brush has strongly denied reports claiming that he is chasing Southend midfielder Kevin Maher.

Shrimpers boss Steve Wignall was furious when he heard reports of Brush speaking to Maher about a move.

However, Brush has flatly denied contacting Maher in any way about a move to Brisbane Road - saying he was away on a course at the time.

"Having been away on a manager's course, I would be interested to hear where these supposed quotes have come from," Brush told the club's website.

"I have not contacted Kevin or spoken to anyone about him - Steve must have been misinformed.

"I've been concentrating on our own targets and we're not far off securing our first summer signing."

This first signing will not be Oxford midfield man Dave Savage, who Brush has been linked to recently.

"I've read that we're poised to offer him a one-year contract and obviously a lot of players get linked with you at this time, but there's nothing in this story."
