Championship: Leeds boss Dave Hockaday focused on doing his job

Leeds United boss Dave Hockaday insists he is simply focused on doing his job at the club, amid rumours over his future at Elland Road.

Speculation has been rife in the last few days that Leeds are about to part company with the former Forest Green Rovers manager following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Watford.

The loss was the third Leeds have suffered in four Championship games this season, but Hockaday is adamant his team were still in the match at Vicarage Road until Giuseppe Bellusci was dismissed for conceding a penalty.

Hockaday discussed the latest defeat with owner Massimo Cellino on Sunday and the possibility of strengthening his squad, but he is adamant his position as manager was not raised.

“I had a two-hour conversation with the president on Sunday,” Hockaday told Sky Sports News HQ.

“We talked about the game, and the defining moment in the game, which saw us go down to 10 men and lose the game where we were in control to a great degree.

“I’m not saying we were going to go on and win the game, but we were controlling the tempo of the game.

“We talked through players needed and everything. And so, it wasn’t even addressed. So it is what it is.

“I’m here. I’m coaching. I love my role here. I love my coaching here. I love my players. I’m getting a lot out of them.

"I’m happy with a lot of the things they’re doing, there’s a lot of work to be done. We still need to be getting players in to improve the squad.

“I’m here, I’ve got my players, I’ll get them fit, I’ll get them organised, I’ll pick the team, I’ll manage the game when it’s being played, and anything outside of that is really out of my hands.”

United’s other victory this season came in the Capital One Cup when they beat Accrington 2-1, and Hockaday is hopeful his charges can repeat that feat in their second-round clash with local neighbours Bradford at Valley Parade.
