Smith targets starting role

Matt Smith is relishing the prospect of regular starts after joining Macclesfield on loan from Oldham.

Striker Smith will remain at the Moss Rose for the rest of the season having made 35 appearances for Latics this term, although the vast majority of those have come as a substitute. "It's been a bit frustrating this season, coming off the bench so often," the 22-year-old told Macclesfield's official website. "I've played more than 30 games but have only made a couple of starts in the league and another one in the League Cup, so this is a fantastic opportunity to get some games here at Macclesfield." The Silkmen have drawn their last five games but are without a win in 13 ahead of Saturday's vital clash with League Two basement boys Dagenham, a contest Smith is relishing. He added: "I've looked at the table and know that it is a massive game and it's obvious to see how a win could make all the difference. So hopefully I can play some part and help the club to get a huge three points at the weekend."
