Neil Redfearn admits he would like to be handed the Leeds United job on a permanent basis, but has no qualms about filling in for somebody else.
Redfearn has been handed the coaching reins at Elland Road in the wake of the Championship club's decision to part with Simon Grayson.
His temporary reign got off to the perfect start on Saturday as the Whites picked up a 3-0 victory away at Bristol City.
That success has strengthened Redfearn's claims to take the post full-time, but he insists that he continues to work on a day-to-day basis and is determined to ensure that the managerial situation is not allowed to become a distraction.
"They are a good bunch of lads with good attitudes who want to do well," he told the club's official website.
"It's not been a problem working with them.
"I'm employed by the club and that won't change. I'm directed to by the people above and the powers that be will decide on whoever the next manager is. What I want to do is make sure I do well while I'm here and in charge. If it is me great, if it isn't I will support whoever comes in.
"It was a good performance on Saturday, but you can't look past that because it's one performance. The most important thing is that we're winning.
"Managers always get touted about, but the most important people are the players, and it's important they're up for every game and that they're organised and in good condition. That's what we did on Saturday and that's what we'll focus on this week for the Brighton game, and so on until I'm told otherwise.
"It's a real honour to be asked to do this. It's a difficult set of circumstances when someone loses their job, and Simon has done a tremendous job, but I've been in the game long enough to know how it works.
"The most important thing is the football club and keeping moving forward. We did well on Saturday. It's a great result, you cherish it while you can, but it's the next game now, and that's Brighton."
