Skysports.com understands Brentford are leading the chase to sign Leeds United's out-of-favour striker Mike Grella.
The 24-year-old was placed on the transfer list by Leeds at the end of last season and he has not been involved in the club's start to the new campaign.
The American trained with New York Cosmos earlier in the summer, but he could now secure a move to stay in English football.
Brentford have enjoyed a positive start to the League One season and manager Uwe Rosler remains keen to improve his squad.
Grella is attracting interest from rival clubs in the third tier, with Carlisle United and Rochdale also understood to be keen on the forward.
He enjoyed spells on loan at Carlisle and Swindon Town last term, and has scored five goals in 42 appearances during his Leeds career.
