Defender keen to stay with Leith club

Hibernian defender Sol Bamba wants to stay at the club and is seeking further talks to clear the air over his pre-season absence. The Ivory Coast international failed to turn up at Hibs' training camp in Holland, claiming he had agreed a later date to return from the World Cup. Bamba did not feature at all for his country in South Africa as Sven Goran Eriksson's side were knocked out in the group stages and Hibs boss John Hughes and chairman Rod Petrie were not impressed with the 25-year-old's non-attendance. Subsequently, the former PSG performer was omitted from the SPL side's Europa League first-leg tie against NK Maribor, instead forced to train with the youth side as the seniors lost 3-0. Bamba, who returned for the second leg as the Hibees went out 6-2 on aggregate, is keen to remain at Easter Road but has called for a chance to explain himself to the club's hierarchy.

Disappointing

He told the Daily Record: "For me it was very disappointing to miss the first leg in Slovenia as it was a big game for the club. "However, there was a misunderstanding. "I was gutted not to play but I don't think I'd have made much difference to the 3-0 result. I was there for the second game at Easter Road and they were a far better team. "It's been a strange few weeks for me and I need to concentrate on fitness now. "I'm happy to be back and everything seems to be OK but I still want to speak with the manager and chairman to make sure the issue has been dealt with. "There has been a lot of talk about me leaving but it's just speculation - I'm happy to be at Hibs."
